Is it ok to floss teeth outside the bathroom?

My mother flosses her teeth in the living room, and it always grosses me out. I tried telling her that this is an activity that should be done in the bathroom, but she just gets mad at me.
What do you think? Is flossing like that ok, or do I have a point here?
Bleeding Tiger, I agree – it’s not that I don’t like watching the act of people flossing, it’s that I don’t like the idea of stuff flying out of their mouths everywhere, lol

Uggggggggggh no no no no no no no no no no no no. I’m SHOCKED that your mom, being your mother and the one who is supposed to teach and exemplify manners, is doing something as heinous as flossing in front of others. There is nothing more vile and rude than picking ones teeth outside of a bathroom. Maybe she should be less touchy and take people’s advice not to be a slob.

it needs to be near a sink or you will get crap from your teeth everywhere, so the kitchen would work

  3. I don’t think it really needs to have such a big deal made of it.

I dunno. My dad walks all over the house flossing his teeth, and it really doesn’t bother me at all.

  6. Well, some people get grossed out by it so it is better done in the bathroom but i have noticed more and more that people at my school floss in public during lunch and what not.

  7. I floss my teeth wherever. I have braces, so it takes a lifetime.

Unless your teeth are full of nasty junk like you just ate corn and teriyaki chicken I don’t care where you floss.

Its fine. It might depend on the people you are around. If it is a nice fancy dinner then i wouldnt but if it is just friends or family it is fine.

  11. Yuck — my mother flosses in the living room when she stays with us … we always clear the room.

I agree with you that flossing should be done in the bathroom, along with other personal hygiene tasks.

I do not believe it is socially proper to do bathroom things outside of the bathroom or bedroom things outside of the bedroom, etc. My mother does the same thing. She will floss her teeth at the table while dining out. I’m mortified!
