I started from the time I came home with my son. Wiping his gum and mouth with a soft wash cloth. Once hw started getting in more teeth, I gave him a toddler tooth brush with the toddler tooth paste because if they happen to swallow any of it, it is ok . I would brush my teeth first and he would usually be standing there with me then I would do his and while I finished getting ready "he would finish brushing his teeth" He know loves to brush his teeth sometimes more than the twice a day we do it.

I got him a tooth brush that has a hole at the bottom so he can put him thumb in the hole so he has a good grip.
I started brushing my son’s teeth at 9mos too and i do it for him but he holds the tooth brush i just guide his hand.
That’s worked very well for us so far, and now my son has learnt to use stokes as he puts the tooth brush into his mouth.
All in a months work.

I first used a gum toothbrush from about 3 months. When she started actually getting teeth, we bought a toothbrush (around 9 months) so she was already familiar with the concept. Now at 13 months I have to
a) let her hold a toothbrush while I brush her teeth with another
b) brush her teeth quickly and then let her brush them herself.

I'm a dental assistant, please supervise! Around 5 you can let them take the reins a little but always be there and do a once or twice over depending on how well they do. Don't let them brush hard, and when they are at the age when they can hold liquid with out swallowing start mouthwash, i recommend ACT its not harsh and its alcohol free. Also at that age start flossing!

Well, to be fair, different dogs have different needs, some dogs, especially small breed dogs like yours, require plenty of attention in ear and teeth detail. It's certainly not mandatory, especially if you take him to the groomers often, but I'm sure your dog would highly appreciate an ear cleaning at least once a week and a brushing, however, you can get one of them bones, Nylabone sells them, that have little bristles that promotes healthy gums and pearly whites, but they're not as accurate as brushing manually. The best thing really is for you to call up your vet or do some of your own research to find out what your specific breed really needs on a daily or constant basis. Personally, I suggest a brushing and cleaning every week regardless of breed.

My daughter is 15 months old and she has been brushing her teeth for more than a month now. i show her how to do it by brushing my own teeth and then let her brush hers as best as she can. if she lets me, then i brush her teeth afterwards to make sure they have been cleaned. if she doesn’t, i leave it. i just try to keep it simple and fun. u don’t have to worry much with their milk teeth.
But make sure u buy the low fluoride tooth paste as they do like the taste and try swallowing it. I don’t put too much tooth paste cuz mine likes to eat it.
u can do whatever u like but remember..Good habits start early.

Not mandatory but is is in his/her best interest. If your uncomfortable brushing his teeth and cleaning his ears you might talk with your groomer if you have one – I’m sure they can help you in this area…

We brush my sons "teeth" at bath time. We started when he was little with just running a cloth over his gums. Now at a year he knows before bathtime is over we brush teeth. He has even started opening his mouth wide and says "AHAHHH" cutest thing!

my daughter hated brushing her teeth at first. first, brush his teeth for him and then give him the tooth brush and let him finish up. I got my daughter an electric spongebob toothbrush.

I clean my dogs ears at least once a week and brush his teeth every other day. But I have been doing this since he was little and he's use to it. The plus side is his Dr. always comments that his teeth and ears look great. The down side is that you have to get your dog accustom to the procedure. You can always schedule regular teeth cleanings with veterinarians that do that. It is costly though. You want to watch your dogs ears because ear health is important. If your dog is exposed to a dog with fleas, or contracts ear mites you want to be on top of that. The fact that you are asking for in put tells me you care very much for your baby. I hope you get plenty of good suggestions to help you aleave your concerns.
