I may have a serious problem. Can a tooth abcess be present althought the teeth/tooth are healthy?

I am on antibiotics to cure the infection, but cannot afford a dentist should the problem persist when the regimen is completed. My question, can an absess be cured with antibiotics alone and be present when the teeth are healthy? Flossing, brushing with peroxide, might they prevent the abcess from returning? I have medical coverage but no dental, nor can I in the least afford one right now, unfortunately. Please, any advice is more than appreciated. Thanks!

I’ve had one for like 6 years but it was draining so it didn’t hurt bad but when I got it cleaned, it killed me…I was put on antibiotics to kill the infection but then I had to do a root canal…my teeth appeared healthy but it was pretty sensitive…Ask your community about this free dental clinic in your area…There are programs that are free to get dental work done for free…Thing is, you have to have a job and no insurance to qualify plus it’s done by dental students which isn’t too bad b/c they have a dentist on hand…

Is it healthy to brush your teeth in the shower?

Also keep the tooth brush in the shower. My friend says she does this all the time and also puts the tooth brush in the dishwasher to clean it. Is this healthy?? Please cite any websites that you reference.

I do this all the time, its safe.

How to get my teeth and gum’s healthy before April 15th?

I have a dentist appointment on April 15th. And I want my teeth and gum’s looking healthy. I do brush 2 times a day. I have to improve on my smile. Will I be able to get my teeth white and gum’s looking healthy before that day?
Plus I use Act restoring mouth wash 1 time a day. Should I be using it 2 times a day?

I’ll be frank with you…

You are never going to fool your dentist. We are trained to see things in your mouth that you are not even aware exist. If you are not taking good care of your mouth, we will know it. We may not say anything to you directly about it, but we will know it. There are usually some signs of it.

More importantly, you need to stop thinking of your dentist as your enemy from whom you have to hide poor health habits. We are there to help you keep your mouth healthy, but since you see us once ever six months, we are fully aware of the fact that it is ultimately your decision whether or not to take care of yourself.

Besides, let us say you managed to fool your dentist into thinking your mouth was healthy. Do you think you can fool your body?

Are veneers ever necessary for healthy teeth?

I thought they were mostly a cosmetic procedure. But the dentist is saying I need them because I have a cavity in a front tooth that is too large for just a filling. I don’t know if I trust him.

Soetiems a large cavity cannot be filled too good just by itself, the tooth may need to be crowned in these cases not veneered actually. A veneer is a layer of porcelain on the outer surface of your tooth. The first choice for a large cavity will be to try and fill it with tooth coloured material..and retetnion of these is pretty good-id go for this if you are under 18 years of age. if you are older and the hole is too big then opt for a crown as a second choice.

Yeah, I already know brush at least 2x a day and floss every day. Got that.

Are there other ways I can help my teeth out? I do brush twice a day (but could stand to floss more). Practices, things I could eat, etc.?

You’re doing everything you’re supposed to do, Sam.

Sure, you can eat less sweets and eat more fibrous meals, but THOSE are BORING things! The tongue scraping really is more likely to help you with your bad breath than anything else.

Avoid EATING hard candies! A couple of Halloweens ago saw me eating a whole bag of blowpops, and the trauma that crunching all that hard candy did on my jaw gave me TMJ, and that may mean having to get my jaw put into traction for a month to get it re-set. The jaw cracks now, and there is a need to wear this appliance in my mouth at night to deal with the pain that the TMJ causes.

THAT is my advice to you. Granted, since you already brush and floss after EVERY meal, it’s not likely that you are going to have any such trauma!

If you WANT, you can cut back on the flossing and do it only AFTER you have eaten a meal associated with meat, then THAT is the BEST time to floss. Soft meat can get stuck between-your-teeth and cause you a lot of problems there if it is left there to decay the enamel on your teeth. The meat associated with hamburgers or hot dogs is fine. THAT meat is less like to get stuck between your teeth than meat like steak or pork.

Sure, you can use those rinses, but my suspicion is that they’re for treating bad breath more than anything else. Since you clean everything out that can give you bad breath, so diligently, you needn’t bother with the expense or effort. It’s easier for lazy people just to rinse their mouths than to CLEAN their mouths. Since you DO bother with keeping your teeth clean, the rinses won’t do too much for you.

If you were to get lost in the jungle for any period of time, the ONE thing you would want to take with you isn’t a toothbrush. It’s some floss.

i have never done anything with my dog’s teeth, well we were on the streets for 5 years and i didnt do nothing special for my teeth either, but now we got a home and some dough. he’s five, his teeth seem good, but his breath is stinky. i buy him those hard biscuits that say they clean dogs teeth. he eats a mix of dry food, meat, and veggies. i have some friends with old dogs with rotten teeth and i would like for my dog to avoid this. how?

Stinky breath comes from one of two places. The mouth or the digestive tract.
He may have an infection in his mouth – this will only be cured with a trip to the vet’s. He may need a professional cleaning, antibiotics, or teeth removed.
If it’s his digestive track, he may need anitbiotics and a change of diet as well.

The best home remedies are the best dry kibble you can afford, the meats and veggies are good for him as well, in moderation. Also go to the fresh meat section of your grocery store. They sell beef marrow bones for 50 cents to a dollar each. You can give them raw to him and let him chew on those. That will help clean his teeth. (never give cooked bones to dogs, they can splinter and cause more issues)

There are many tooth whiting kits tht you can buy at wal mart, such as crest white strips. These are basically less potent forms of what you can get from the dentist. However to really make them sparkle again you’ll want to get a good cleaning and bleach trays from your dentist. They are made specifically to fit your mouth so can really get into all the nooks between your teeth. You also get the tubes of whitining gel from your dentist, and a lot wont charge for them. Careful though, these arent great for people with already sensitive teeth.
