How to brush my dogs teeth?

My dog is really cute friendly and nice but theres just one problem with her her breathe ewww it smells really bad but i wont to fix that and wont to brush her teath but dont know if i should just get tooth brush and do it with water or is there a spiecial eype of tooth paste?

you can mix a little bit of baking powder with water until it creates a type of paste and put it on the toothbrush (dont worry its safe)…then with just water on the toothbrush, go over the teeth again to kinda rinse it out. Thats how i would brush my pup’s teeth, and it seemed to work :)

  1. There is tooth paste specifically designed for dogs(it can be swallowed). You can find it is most pet stores, as well as tooth brushes designed for use on dogs(they are longer and bent slightly).

Some of the larger chain pet stores sell a started kit. It has the brush, and a small amount of paste.

My vet suggested taking a gauze pad, and rubbing it against the gums in order to remove plaque, and it seems to have worked well. I also have the tooth brush/paste, and it is always harder to get the dogs to stay still long enough to really help, besides the dog trying to eat the tooth paste makes it hard as well.

  4. Good question!!! It is very beneficial to brush your dog’s teeth as often as you can (I brush my dogs teeth every night before bed). It DOES make a difference!!!

It does not matter which type of toothpaste you choose, just remember.. no human toothpaste!!! Petco, petsmart, etc. all sell doggie toothpaste (chicken and peanut butter are favorites in my house!) along with tooth brushes appropriate for your dogs mouth (finger brush, arched brush, etc.).

I did answer a question on how to start brushing and how to get your dog used to it… I will try to find it for you and paste it here for additional help: (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... Let me know if the link does not work!

    I wish you luck!

  5. You can buy dog toothpaste at a pet store. It comes in different flavors such as beef. Some kits come with a toothbrush, or you can buy one.

  6. If you’ve never done it before you’ll have to get your dog used to it. Start by just wetting your finger with water and rub along the gumline. Then when she’s used to that wrap a small gauze pad (wet with water) and do the same thing until she’s used to the new texture. Then still using a gauze pad add a small amount of toothpaste for dogs. When she is used to that you can get a soft bristled toothbrush and start getting her used to that.
